Uk’s PIONEER IN project based online Tuition PROGRAMMES

WE EMPOWER YOUNG MINDS TO MASTER MATHS THROUGH HANDS ON, PROJECT BASED LEARNING

At Chilli tutoring, we specialise in Project-Based Learning (PBL) for children aged 8-11, focusing on maths-based skills with exciting cross-curricular links.

Our innovative programmes turn learning into an engaging adventure, helping your child develop critical skills through hands-on projects.

Why Choose Project Based Learning?

Project-Based Learning offers a dynamic and effective way for your child to learn. By connecting maths with real-world problems and other subjects, project-based learning keeps your child motivated and engaged. This approach fosters a deeper understanding of concepts, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. The same project can be completed over and over again, resulting in a different end project, that reinforces the same skills each time leading to mastery of knowledge.

Engagement and Motivation

Project-based learning makes learning fun and relevant by connecting it to real-world problems and interests. Children are more motivated and excited to learn when they see the practical applications of their studies.

Deeper Understanding

Instead of memorising facts, project-based learning encourages students to explore subjects in depth. They gain a comprehensive understanding of topics by researching, collaborating, and applying their knowledge in meaningful projects.

Skill Development

Project-based learning helps children develop essential life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. These skills are crucial for their future academic and career success.

Creativity and Innovation

Through project-based learning, students are encouraged to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions. They learn to approach problems from different angles and develop unique ideas.

Ownership of Learning

Project-based learning empowers children to take charge of their education. They become active participants in their learning journey, fostering independence and self-confidence.

Real-World Connections

Project-based learning bridges the gap between classroom learning and the real world. Students see the relevance of their education and how it can impact their communities and the world.

Collaboration and Social Skills

Working on projects with peers helps children develop strong collaboration and social skills. They learn to share ideas, listen to others, and work effectively as part of a team.

Success Stories

I really enjoyed doing the 2D Shape project. I felt like I was doing an art project, not learning maths! It was a lot of fun!

Isabella - Aged 10

Child

Isabella really enjoyed the 2D Shape Art Project. Apart from the videos being online, I loved the fact that the project could be completed offline as so many programs are all online based these days. The instruction videos were really helpful in helping Isabella learn what she needed to do, and the Whatsapp support was amazing! Any time we had questions, Sheree would get back to us quickly using either voice notes or videos. I highly recommend these courses. I am looking forward to Isabella completing her next one!

How Project Based Learning works

Our Project-Based Learning process involves several key steps:

Engaging Question or Problem

Each project begins with a compelling task, question or problem.

Research and Exploration

Students gather information and explore the topic in depth. Information gathering can come from prior knowledge, or completing tasks to acquire new knowledge.

Planning and Creating

They plan their approach and create their project.

Sharing and Reflecting

Students present their work and reflect on their learning.

This structured approach ensures comprehensive learning and skill development.

Not sure which program is right for your child?

Each of our Project Based Learning Programs focus on specific skills for your child to learn, apply and master. If you are not yet sure where to begin, you can:

Book in for a learning review call with one of our expert tutors.

In this call, we will discuss with you any concerns you have about your child's learning and go over the different courses that we think would benefit your child's unique learning needs.

Register your child for our diagnostic assessment.

This assessment is designed to provide an in-depth analysis for parents, to see which maths key skills your child needs to further develop and which skills they excel in, making choosing a project based program easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are your tuition programs for?

Our online courses are designed for students aged 8-11 and provided differentiated activities to cater for these year levels.

Younger and older children may still find enjoyment in these activities, but may need extra support or extension.

How will project-based learning help my child improve their maths skills?

Project-based learning (PBL) improves maths skills by embedding them in engaging, real-world projects. This approach makes maths more concrete and understandable, enhances engagement, and develops problem-solving abilities. PBL also involves collaborative learning, integrates other essential skills, and can be tailored to your child’s pace. This holistic method not only strengthens maths skills but also promotes a love for learning.

How does project-based learning incorporate cross-curricular activities?

Project-based learning integrates subjects like science, English, history and geography with maths through interdisciplinary projects. For instance, a project on environmental conservation might involve maths for data analysis, science for understanding ecosystems, and English for report writing.

How do you ensure that the maths skills being taught align with the school curriculum?

Our projects are designed to align with the English national and local curriculum standards. We regularly review and update our content to ensure it matches what is taught in schools, helping reinforce and expand your child's learning.

What if my child struggles with a particular maths concept during a project?

Each of our projects comes complete with differentiated resources to ensure that all students can access the project and learn the key skills that are required.

For example: If your child has not yet learnt the properties of 2D shapes, there are activities they can complete to embed this skill, before they move onto applying this skill to their project.

On top of this, within our guided programs, our qualified teachers can provide additional resources to help them overcome challenges. We tailor our approach to ensure every student can master the necessary concepts at their own pace.

How is progress assessed in project-based learning compared to traditional methods?

Progress in project-based learning is assessed through project outcomes, presentations, and reflections rather than standard tests. This holistic approach evaluates a child’s understanding, application of knowledge, and skill development. At the end of each project, parents will be sent a project report for them to see the progress their child has made over the course of the project.

Can project-based learning be tailored to my child's specific learning needs and pace?

Yes, project-based learning can be customised to fit your child’s learning style, pace, and interests. Projects are open ended and allow your child to engage in a way they find interesting.

For example: If your child has an interest in IT and design, they may choose to create their project report as a powerpoint or slide, or they may create a video. On the other hand, if your child prefers art, they may choose to create their project report as a poster. This open ended approach ensures that each student can fully engage with and benefit from the projects.

How much time will my child need to dedicate to these projects each week?

The time commitment varies depending on the project and the child, but typically, students spend about 3-5 hours per week. This allows for thorough exploration and learning without overwhelming their schedule.

What kind of technology or materials will my child need to participate in these projects?

Your child will need a computer or tablet with internet access, and basic supplies like paper, pencils, and a calculator. Specific projects may require additional materials, which will be communicated in advance.

How do you keep students motivated and engaged throughout the projects?

We keep students motivated through engaging, real-world projects that interest them, collaborative activities, and regular feedback. Our projects are designed to be fun and relevant, making learning enjoyable. If your child prefers a more supportive learning approach, we suggest one of our Support Guided programs as this provides face to face time with a qualified teacher, during group lessons and/or Q&A sessions, on top of the online feedback and support.

Are there opportunities for parental involvement in the project-based learning process?

Yes, we encourage parental involvement. You can support your child by discussing their projects, helping them gather materials, and encouraging their efforts. We also provide updates and suggestions for at-home support.

Can project-based learning help my child prepare for standardised tests or exams?

Yes, project-based learning helps develop a deep understanding of maths concepts and critical thinking skills, which are beneficial for standardised tests. By applying maths in real-world contexts, students are better prepared for various exam questions.
